Here are the events and traditional fiestas in Ibiza that should be entered into your 2019 calendar.
Traditional Events in Ibiza
Ibiza in April
Easter
In 2019, Easter celebrations fall on the third week in April. It is quite late this year, but it becomes an appealing spring getaway to Ibiza to bring together culture, walks and even time spent on beaches under the midday sun. It is worth watching the processions on Easter Friday in Santa Eulària des Riu and in the old part of the city of Ibiza (Dalt Vila).
Ibiza in May
Fiestas on the First Sunday in May
The first Sunday in May is devoted to the village fiestas in Santa Eulària des Riu, an excellent chance to learn about Ibiza’s traditions and customs. The programme includes a traditional cart parade, folk dances, children’s games and a tasting of typical cakes and pastries.
Barruguet Family Theatre Festival
During the fourth weekend in May, Santa Eulària des Riu is home to this lively family-centred festival. This theatre festival hosts about twenty shows run by national and international companies and many of them can be understood by foreigners as they are based on body language.
Ibiza in June
Fiestas of San Juan
The night of San Juan (24th June) will be lit by bonfires and celebrations along the island’s coast, but the village of Sant Joan hogs the limelight this day with its wide array of activities, including its traditional leap over nine bonfires.
Ibiza in July
Local fiestas in Es Canar
10th July is when Es Canar celebrates its local fiestas in honour of their patron saint, Sant Cristófol. This pleasant village is home to Hotel Ánfora. Folk dances, children’s games and tastings of local produce are some of the activities planned for this day.
Ibiza in August
Fiestas of the Land
During the first fortnight in August, the city of Ibiza celebrates its fiestas in honour of their patron saints, Santa María de las Nieves and San Ciriaco. The programme includes free concerts, traditional dances, popular food and fireworks.
Sant Bartomeu
On 24th August, Sant Antoni de Portmany celebrates its local fiestas with music shows, folk dances, a night parade of correfocs (dancers leaping among firecrackers and sparklers) and the beautiful firework display over the bay.
Sant Agustí
The small village of Sant Agustí des Vedrà celebrates its local fiestas with traditional festivities and music performances on 28th August. It’s the perfect excuse to come over to this quaint spot on the western side of Ibiza.
Other traditional events near Es Canar and Hotel Ánfora include:
Fiesta of Sant Llorenç de Balàfia 10th August
Fiestas of Sant Miquel: 29th September
Local fiestas of Sant Carles: 4th November
