Ibiza and artists
There are quite a few artists who came to Ibiza on holiday and decided to settle down here for longer. Or for ever. The work of art of these painters and sculptors can be seen at different cultural venues, including the Modern Art Museum of Ibiza (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo) or the Sala Barrau in Santa Eulària des Riu (only a few minutes away from our 4-star hotel in Es Canar). And on the walls of some iconic bars on the island, like Ca n’Anneta in Sant Carles and Bar Costa in Santa Gertrudis. But the island also raised its own artists, as one can see in the Puget Museum devoted to the painters Narcís Puget (father and son) or the modern-day artist Júlia Ribas, Andreu Moreno and Antonio and Pedro Hormigo, among others.
Three surprising art galleries in Ibiza
P|Art Ibiza Gallery
This avant-garde venue created in 2013 has become one of the artistic meeting points on the island thanks to its painting, photography and sculpture exhibitions by national and international modern artists. This summer, don’t miss the exhibition organised together with the guest art gallery 3Punts to show the work of Samuel Salcedo, Silvio Alino, Kiko Miyares, Gerard Mas and Alejandro Monge among other artists. P|Art Ibiza is on the road from Ibiza to Santa Eulària des Riu, about 15 Km from Hotel Ánfora. Website.
Art Projects Ibiza + Lune Rouge
These two exhibition centres display works of art from the Lune Rouge private art collection, owned by Guy Laliberté, creator of the Cirque du Soleil and fervent admirer of this island. During the year, they organise two exhibitions: a winter one devoted to some of the pieces from the collection and a summer one devoted to a renowned artist. From 17th June until 1st October, they will be showing the exhibition called An Insane Desire For You organised alongside the Belgian art gallery Xavier Hufkens to display the most recent work of artist Tracey Emin. A great chance to see her latest work that combines drawings, paintings and neon lights before it moves on to the Musee d’Orsay in Paris. Website.
Parra & Romero
The research into the new languages of modern art is the star of the exhibitions organized by this Madrid-born art gallery that opened another gallery in Ibiza in 2013. Open to the public in the afternoons from June to October, they have planned several exhibitions for this summer: A Broken Arm of an Island, where the German artist Thomas Scheibitz embodies his idea of Ibiza in a never-ending puzzle, and Argela, the work of Lara Almarcegui with her reflections on the land of Ibiza and its geological past. The gallery is on the road to Sant Miquel Km 2.3 (near the Ama Lur restaurant), 13 Km from Es Canar. Web.
