Ana and Hotel Ánfora
It’s Hotel Ánfora’s 50th anniversary. What do you think has helped it come so far?
Perseverance, effort and courage.
What do you like most of your job?
Every day is different and I get the chance to dip my toe into many different fields and keep on learning.
And what do you like about working in Hotel Ánfora?
The ever present team spirit. We really have become a second family and it’s so fulfilling to see guests leave with happy memories of us.
What’s the funniest anecdote you’ve lived in all these years at the hotel?
When I worked at the front desk, a cleaning lady came down to tell me that the mattress in one of the rooms was burnt. When the guest from that room came down, I asked him if everything was OK and he said, ‘Yes, everything’s fine.’ But. His scorched moustache gave him away! He only had half a moustache left!
More or less, how many guest names do you remember from one year to the next?
The way people travel nowadays has changed, but before it was easy to remember many names because there were guests who would come a few days in June and then come back in September.
In your experience, the guest always...
Surprises you! And after all these years, I still believe it.
What do you like most of the new Hotel Ánfora?
Its new look, as its more refined, and the comforts and facilities we’re given to work.
What do you wish the hotel for the next 50 years?
For it to keep up its good work and management and never lose the thrill in creating happy holidays and moments.
Ana and Ibiza
What’s your favourite spot in Ibiza?
There are many, but I love Santa Agnès, especially when the almond trees are in bloom. It’s an essential image of Ibiza in the winter.
Do you prefer the Ibiza facing the sea or the one hiding in the countryside?
The countryside, because I love hiking. There are so many beautiful trails inland.
What would you say is a must-see for a first-time visitor in Ibiza?
To start with, get out and explore the island. You can’t just stay in the hotel or on the nearest beach. You have to visit the island and discover it, try its food...
What makes Ibiza so special?
Something magic, that’s for sure. Something that makes people come back. It’s something special that can’t be described, but it’s there...
What’s your favourite Ibizan dish?
I love bread with aioli and the flaó... They’re my undoing! And everything else, of course.
Which three restaurants do you always return to in the summer?
I love Cala Martina, that’s very near Hotel Ánfora. And we also go every summer to El viejo gallo, in Port des Torrent. The third one would be Es Pins, on the road to Sant Joan. It’s a typical Ibizan restaurant.
And if you want to enjoy the nightlife... where do you go...
My home terrace where there’s silence, sky and peace. That’s all I want.
For a perfect day in Ibiza, there should always be...
Sun.
