Depending on when you’re visiting the island, you’ll be able to join the local fiestas of the city of Ibiza, or those of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Sant Llorenç de Balàfia and Sant Agustí de Es Vedrà. A different plan to add to your holidays that will introduce you to the island’s old customs, like their traditional costumes, dances and music.
Traditional festivities in August
Festes de la Terra
If you’re staying at Hotel Ánfora during the first fortnight of August, you’ll be able to join their local celebrations while you visit the island’s capital and the old part of the town. The Festes de la Terra last two weeks as they link the fiestas held in honour of Santa María de las Nieves (5th August) and San Ciriaco (8th August), as well as the fiestas hosted by the Ses Figueretes district from 9th to 15th August.
Out of all the events on the fiestas calendar in the city of Ibiza, we especially recommend:
- The firework displays on 8th August (Ibiza harbour) and on 15th August (Ses Figueretes beach);
- The free concerts in Reina Sofía Park during the fiestas, especially Diego Amador (30th July), Mago de Oz (5th August) and Xavier Sarriá (8th August).
- The lights and drones show on Ses Figueretes beach on 15th August at midnight.
Fiestas of Sant Bartomeu
Next 24th August, Sant Antoni de Portmany will be holding its local fiestas in honour of Sant Bartomeu (Saint Bartholomew). If you come over in the morning, you can visit its extraordinary fortified church and you can also see folk dances at about midday and eat at one of its traditional restaurants, such as Es Rebost de Can Prats or Es Náutic. If you’d rather come in the afternoon, you’ll get to enjoy the sunset and live music, a street market and its famous firework display.
