How to get to Formentera
To jump to the sister island from the Anfora Hotel is very easy, since there are boats from the company Santa Eulalia Ferry leaving from Es Canar beach every day with return trips until the end of October.
Out and about in Formentera
Our sister island has only 83 square km and its longest road has less than 20 km, which makes it very easy to visit in one day, especially because a great part of the territory is flat, except for the rise that leads to the plateau of la Mola on the east side of the island. This makes it ideal to ride a bicycle, an excellent means to discover Formentera while you follow some of the 28 greenways suitable for bikes. You can also hire scooters and cars at the Puerto de la Savina, as well as catch some tourist or urban bus lines running during the summer season.
What to visit on a day excursion to Formentera
- Ses Illetes : the most famous beach in Formentera is a long virgin sandy beach with turquoise waters. A truly natural pool that becomes even more paradisiac in October, due to a fewer number of visitors.
- San Francesc Xavier: the island’s capital is small and charming, with an adequate selection of restaurants and boutiques. You can’t miss its church, one of the best examples of fortress-church of the Pitiusa Islands.
- The light house of Cap Barbaria: is one of the icons of the island. On your way to the far west end of the island, you can make a detour and bathe at the beautiful Cala Saona.
- The light house of la Mola: by climbing to the plateau where this emblematic light house was built, you can discover the excellent sites from the terrace of the Restaurante Mirador, with a superb panoramic view over Formentera and Ibiza’s south coast.
Where to eat in Formentera
If you feel like a delicious paella, a tasty rice or a fish barbecue, we recommend booking in one of the following restaurants: Es Codol Foradat, Vogamarí, Es Caló and Can Rafalet.
Just before you go…
Before you catch the boat back to Es Canar, try one of the delicious ice creams at the Italian ice cream shop Geckolateria, situated right at the entrance of Puerto de la Savina. We warn you that the black chocolate ice cream is very addictive!
