Ibiza Marathon 2026: recommended accommodation and plans

The Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon has become one of the most special sporting events on the European calendar, with over 6000 runners taking part last year. If you’re thinking about running the Ibiza Marathon 2026, here’s a comprehensive guide with key information, suggestions for accommodation and the best plans to make the most of your trip.

Sports travel includes marathons as one of the most popular events, with a sustained growth shown by races that offer the extra appeal of the destination. Ibiza now has a place on this map given that the course goes through Mediterranean landscapes and runners also get to spend a few days on the island during the off-peak season with pleasant temperatures in the daytime.

All this means that Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon is not only a sporting challenge, it’s also a chance to explore the island differently, combining sports, tourism and the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Ibiza Marathon 2026: date and course

The ninth edition of the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon will be on Saturday 18th April 2026 in the afternoon, which makes it even more special, as there are not many marathons held this time of day. Starting at 15:30h from the old port of the city of Ibiza, the finish line is in Santa Eulària des Riu, on the eastern side of the island.

The route goes through different landscapes on the island, stringing together stretches of city, countryside and coastline. Starting in the city of Ibiza, runners head inland passing by Santa Gertrudis to then head down towards the coast and end by the promenade of Santa Eulària as the sun sets. The event includes three distances adapted to different levels (Marathon, 22k and 12k).

What to do in Ibiza before and after the Marathon

Considering the physical strain of this race, we’ve created a list of ideal suggestions for each phase of your getaway: before and after the race. Plans that combine food, swims in the sea –yes, people do start bathing this time of the year– and drives around Ibiza.

What to do the day before the Ibiza Marathon

On the eve or days leading up to the race if you’re making a spring break of it, it is essential to prepare your body and mind and the island’s attractions will help you do so. Here are some of the plans suggested for the eve of the Ibiza Marathon:

Stroll around Santa Eulària
Go for a stroll along its promenade and up to Puig de Missa, one of the best samples of a fortified church in the Pitiusas Islands. You will activate your legs without exhausting them and will experience the buzz before the race, with national and international runners.

Visit Dalt Vila
It is worth paying a visit to the city of Ibiza to get familiar with the start line of the marathon and stroll through the old narrow streets of the walled quarter of Dalt Vila, declared World Heritage. Walk along the city walls and end the stroll at the top of the citadel, having a drink in the patio of the castle of Ibiza, which has just been reopened after it was turned into a Parador (high-class state-owned hotel in a historical building).

Light, nutritious dinner
On the eve, eat a balanced dinner with plenty of carbs that’s easy to digest. Many restaurants in the area offer menus prepared with the race and runners’ needs in mind. At Hotel Anfora you’ll be able to order dishes that are suitable on the eve of the race.

What to do the day after the Ibiza Marathon

After the race, you can relax and enjoy plans that are great to recover and celebrate having faced the challenge of the Ibiza Marathon 2026. If you stretch your stay for an extra day or two, you can include the following plans.

A relaxing day at Hotel Anfora
In April, the pools are warmed up so that you can spend pleasant days in the sun and water. After a good night’s rest on a high-end mattress, you can relax on a Balinese bed or get a massage in the treatments room.

Rest by the sea
Nothing better than a walk on the beach or even a swim (if the weather permits) to relax your muscles. The area of Es Canar, home to our hotel, is perfect for this as your can relax on one of the beautiful beaches or coves, like Es Canar, Cala Nova or Cala Llenya. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen as sun rays at this time of year are pretty deceptive and you can easily get burnt.

Local food
After the race, it’s time to enjoy the tastiest specialities of Ibiza, like the bullit de peix, the Ibiza-style paella, the crostes salad, grilled fish, fried squid, cuttlefish or octopus... Around Es Canar and Santa Eulària, you’ll find several restaurants specialising in Ibizan cuisine that are open in April, like Es Pou des Lleó, Ca’s Pagès, Cala Martina, Salvadó...

Routes around Ibiza
If you’re making a holiday of your trip for the Ibiza Marathon 2026, we suggest you hire a car to explore villages inland (like Santa Gertrudis, Sant Carles and Sant Miquel) visit the hippy flea markets of Las Dalias and Punta Arabí, explore the coves on the western coast of Ibiza and admire the sunset from San Antonio harbour.
