Where to stay in Ibiza? Tips to choose the best hotel for you

Choosing your hotel is one of the most important decisions when planning a trip, especially on an island where there is so much to see all over the island. Location, services, surrounding area, facilities and additional activities are some of the aspects to look into when you’re choosing a hotel in Ibiza for your holidays.

Our island is known for attracting travellers of all kinds: families, clubbers, foodies, couples looking for peace and quiet, beach lovers... The island can be as peaceful or as intense as you like, luxurious or informal, active or slow... This is precisely why choosing carefully where to stay in Ibiza is much more important than it seems, because your experience will change depending on the area and type of accommodation you pick.

Remember this before you book your hotel in Ibiza

Before choosing your hotel, we suggest you have a clear idea of whether you want to rest, rent a car, go on occasional outings, need accessible beaches, if you're travelling with kids, whether you prefer wild coves to beaches will close access to all types of services... The answers will help you decide what’s the best area in Ibiza for you to stay.

Mobility on the island

Ibiza isn’t a big island. In fact it’s only about 55km between one end and the other, but roads are quite slow as the speed limit is usually between 60 and 80km/h. That’s why staying in a location that’s well connected to the places you want to visit or the things you want to do will save you extra long drives. If you don’t want to rent a car and would rather go by bus or taxi, then choose one of the holiday towns with regular bus or boat services, like Sant Antoni, Es Canar or Santa Eulària.

The type of trip

There isn’t only one “best area to stay in Ibiza”. It all depends on the type of experience you’re looking for. For example, if you want to go clubbing, then you’d be better off choosing a hotel in Ibiza, Playa d’en Bossa or Sant Antoni. But if you’d rather visit the quiet Ibiza with its wide variety of coves and beaches, then stay in the eastern or north-eastern area. On the other hand, if you’re travelling with kids, then Es Canar, Es Figueral and Cala Tarida, for example, are where you’ll find family-friendly hotels. And if you're planning to explore north, south, east and west, it's best to choose locations that are within 45 minutes from the farthest point, like Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària and the city of Ibiza.

Is Es Canar a good option to stay in Ibiza?

Only a few kilometres from Santa Eulària, Es Canar has several advantages that you won’t find easily in other places on the island.

  • It’s quiet even during the peak season, as it doesn’t focus on nightlife.
  • It’s location on the eastern coast means you can get to peaceful beaches easily as well as other places of interest on the island.
  • It has a vast offer of hotels, restaurants and shops.
  • Besides the beach in Es Canar, you’ll find other coves nearby, like Cala Martina., Cala Pada, Cala Nova and Cala Llenya.
  • On Wednesdays you can browse the famous hippy street market of Punta Arabí, the oldest flea market in Ibiza.
  • Es Canar is connected to Santa Eulària, Cala Llonga and Ibiza city by boat or bus.
  • It is very family friendly.

Where to stay in Ibiza? Tips for your booking

The following tips are helpful to make the best choice and have the peaceful or active holidays you want.

Book early

If you’re travelling to Ibiza, it's always a good idea to make arrangements in advance so that you won’t have problems with availability and you can get lower rates, which usually come out in October and January, like the ones offered by Hotel Anfora for guests who like to plan well in advance. It’s also a good idea to get ahead of the summer rush if you’re looking for a specific type of room, like a suites or family room.

Check the real location, not only the name of the hotel

One of the most typical mistakes when booking a hotel is taking the hotel name for granted, as it can be misguiding and make you think it’s elsewhere. It’s also good to check if the hotel is in an area that suits the type of trip you’ve planned to avoid booking in a clubbing area if you want peace and quiet, for example, or a hotel that’s too far from the services you want.

Check the services included before booking the hotel

Restaurant, gym, car park, on-site activities, transfers to/from the airport, courtesy room... If you need a special service, check that the hotel offers it and if they charge extra for it.

Prioritise hotels that are transparent in their communications

A professional handling of the hotel’s communications will keep guests informed about all its services and gives travellers peace of mind. By this we mean up-to-date adverts, authentic photos, clear information on check-in and check-out times, customer service, responsiveness before any event, announcement of new services and upgrades on the premises, information about the destination... Then the traveller will know what to expect and rely on the hotel’s help if something comes up before or during their stay.

Read the latest reviews and value the full experience

Reviews by other guests will provide a key tool to make the best decision. It’s helpful to check recent reviews carefully, especially about cleanliness, comforts, noise, treatment from staff, easy access, surrounding area... This makes it easier to know if the hotel is suitable for the trip you’ve planned or not.
